The preferred corporate entity for foreign investors is the private limited company, also known as a Sendirian Berhad company. By 2007, more than 750,000 private limited companies were registered in Malaysia. Through a private limited company, an entrepreneur can i) open a corporate bank account ii) obtain local residence and employment visas and iii) lease office or factory premises following Malaysia company incorporation. Other company structures available in Malaysia include the Branch Office and Representative Office.

To meet Malaysia company registration regulations, every Malaysian company must appoint at least two local resident directors. Thereafter, an unlimited number of local and international directors may be appointed. However, only individual directors are allowed - corporate directors are not. The company must also appoint at least two shareholders, who can be any nationality. Corporate and individual shareholders are permitted.

Following Malaysia company registration, company details are available for public viewing through the CCM. Details available include shareholders and directors, date of incorporation, share capital and registered address.

After Malaysia company registration, it is necessary to appoint an approved auditor in Malaysia and submit audited financial statements and an annual corporate tax return to the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia.
