Hong Kong company registration is a popular option for foreign investors thanks to it's reputable international image. Hong Kong was the world's seventh and Asia's second largest recipient of foreign direct investment during 2007, attracting US$59.9 billion inward investment. This is reinforced by the fact that there were 55% more regional headquarters in Hong Kong in 2007 than in 1997.

Hong Kong company registration is normally completed by a corporate services firm based in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong firm will liaise with the Companies Registry to complete this process.

The limited liability company (LLC) is the preferred investment vehicle for investors in Hong Kong. More than 80,000 LLCs are registered in Hong Kong. Other corporate entities available to foreign entrepreneurs considering Hong Kong company registration include the limited liability partnership (LLP), the Hong Kong branch office, representative office and sole proprietorship.

To comply with business laws, every business undertaking Hong Kong company registration must appoint a minimum of one director. Thereafter, an unlimited number of local and international directors may be appointed. Corporate directors are allowed. Furthermore, every Hong Kong company must have at least one shareholder and the minimum authorized share capital for Hong Kong company registration is HK$1.

To complete the Hong Kong company registration process, a Business Registration Certificate must be obtained within one month of the company's incorporation. The business registration fee is HK$2,600 (US$335), and must be renewed annually.

Following Hong Kong company registration, an annual tax return and audited financial statements are submitted to the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department (IRD).
